This refurbishment upgraded the treatment of wastewater in line with applicable legislation and expanded the capacity of the treatment plant to cope with sewerage for the entire town and surrounding areas. The WWTP has mechanical and biological technology with a nitrification and denitrification zone, plus a tertiary stage of final treatment working on the principle of long-term activation with complete sludge stabilisation. The treatment plant remained in full operation while the reconstruction work was carried out.
